Privacy on Pest Radar
Pest Radar is designed so that nobody, including other visitors, can find your home from a report.
What we collect
- The pest type, severity, date and optional description you enter.
- Your ZIP code and, only if you choose, your device location.
- An optional photo. We re-encode it and remove all metadata (including GPS tags) before storing it.
What is public
- Only reports approved by our reviewer.
- Activity grouped into neighborhood-sized hexagons (about 0.7 km², many blocks) and ZIP codes.
- Pest type, severity and the day of the sighting. Never addresses, exact coordinates, descriptions, photos or who reported.
What we never do
- Require an account, name, email or phone number.
- Store your IP address. Rate limiting uses a one-way keyed hash that can't be reversed.
- Send exact locations to analytics.
- Store street addresses. If a location is looked up, only the resulting coordinates are kept, privately.
Removing a report
After you submit, you get a one-time removal code. Use it on the remove a report page at any time.
Not official surveillance
Pest Radar reflects community observations reviewed by Bart's Bugs Be Gone. It is not a government, agricultural or public-health monitoring program.
